The Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship is a school-based training programme designed for experienced staff currently working in schools to take the next steps in their career.
On the Apprenticeship route, trainees who successfully complete their training will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Level 6 Teacher Apprenticeship Qualification, and have the opportunity to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
CTTC are pleased to offer the Apprenticeship route for Primary and Secondary trainees.
Apprentice trainees are employed by their school for the academic year and earn a yearly salary of at least £20,598. Once qualified, teachers start on a salary of £31,000 – £38,000 (dependent on location). Training costs are covered by the school’s Apprenticeship Levy and the trainee.
Trainees on the Apprenticeship route are in the classroom from the start of the course, which allows them to be immersed in school life and gain practical experience of teaching in the classroom. Apprenticeship trainees can teach up to 60% of a 4-day a week timetable. As the Apprentice is fully responsible for the planning, teaching and assessment of their class(es) from day one, candidates need to have extensive experience of working in a school environment to ensure they are fully prepared to take on the demands of the Apprenticeship.
To be eligible for the Apprenticeship route, candidates need to meet the following minimum requirements:
- A degree awarded by a UK higher education provider, or a recognised equivalent qualification.
- A standard equivalent to grade 4/C, or above, in GCSE examinations in English and Mathematics
- For Primary Apprentices, a standard equivalent to grade 4/C, or above, in a GCSE Science subject
