This route allows Trainees to learn ‘on the job’ and earn a salary whilst they train towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This route is an employment-based route and Salaried Trainees are employed for at least a year by their school on the Unqualified Teacher scale. The exact salary a Trainee will receive will vary depending on the employing school but will be at least £21,731 (UT Scale Point 1). The cost of the training will be covered by the employing school, but Salaried Trainees may be charged for their Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) qualification.
The Salaried route leads to the same qualification at the end of the course (QTS and PGCE, if desired), and training follows the same programme.
Salaried Trainees usually have extensive experience of working in a school, for example, as a cover supervisor or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). The Salaried route is best suited to applicants with significant school experience as Salaried Trainees will have sole responsibility for their class(es) from the start of the course and will have a higher teaching load than Tuition Fee Trainees.
The Salaried route is available for both Primary and Secondary teaching.
If you are a candidate interested in the Salaried route, you must have already secured employment or come to an agreement with a school who want to employ you and support you throughout your training year. Once you have received this confirmation from a school, please contact CTTC to enquire about the next steps to make an application. Salaried places are always in extremely high demand, so we recommend contacting schools early in the academic year. Candidates without an employing school should consider the Tuition Fee route instead.
If you are a Primary or Secondary school looking to employ a Salaried trainee, please get in contact with CTTC for a discussion about how we can work with you.
