Science Teacher Apprenticeship Opportunity – September 2026

2 June 2026

Colchester Teacher Training Consortium is delighted to be working with one of our partner secondary schools to recruit a Science Apprentice Teacher for September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate with prior school experience to earn whilst training to become a qualified teacher through the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship route, leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Unlike some teacher training routes, the apprenticeship pathway is designed for individuals who are already confident working within a school environment and are ready to take on substantial classroom responsibility from the beginning of the course. Apprentice trainees are employed by the school and will teach classes independently from the start of their training year, whilst receiving ongoing support and high-quality professional development from both the school and CTTC.

About the Apprenticeship Route

The Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship combines practical classroom experience with evidence-informed teacher training. Trainees are employed by the school throughout the programme and receive a salary whilst working towards QTS.

Apprentice trainees typically:

  • Teach a reduced timetable whilst training
  • Work alongside experienced mentors and Lead Subject Mentors
  • Attend weekly centre-based training with CTTC
  • Develop their practice through instructional coaching, targeted feedback and intensive training opportunities
  • Gain experience in planning, teaching, assessment and behaviour management from the very start of the course

This route is particularly well suited to candidates who:

  • Have experience working or volunteering in schools
  • Are confident leading learning with groups of pupils
  • Are ready for the pace and responsibility of classroom teaching
  • Are passionate about Science and inspiring young people

Candidate Requirements

Applicants will ideally:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Hold a Science degree or a related subject degree
